introduction
The Brazilian National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) officially issued Regulation No. 99/2016 on March 10, 2016, approving amendments to the toy technical regulations to prohibit the use of butanediol in toys. This regulation comes into effect immediately.
1,4-butanediol (BDO) is an important organic and fine chemical raw material, a colorless viscous oily liquid that is flammable. Inhalation can irritate the respiratory tract, skin contact can irritate the skin, and ingestion is harmful to the human body. 1,4-Butanediol can generate various derivatives such as THF, PTMEG, GBL, etc. BDO and its derivatives can be widely used in PBT plastics, spandex, polyurethane, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and other fields.
Common safety issues with children's toys
1. Toys of specific shapes and sizes (such as small balls, fuzz balls, etc.), small parts of disassembled toys, and parts that fall off during improper use, if the volume size is too small, are easily swallowed or inhaled by children.
2. Some toys have sharp edges, sharp tips or protrusions, which can easily cause children to be cut, scratched, stabbed, etc.
3. The ropes and elastic cords on toys and toy packaging may cause entanglement and strangulation of children, so be careful when playing. For example, hanging toys on the crib or playpen, fitness toys on the crib, ropes and elastic ropes on toys for children under 18 months old, ropes on flying toys, ropes on toy bags, etc.
4. Uninflated or ruptured balloons may pose a choking hazard to children under 8 years old and should be used under adult supervision. Keep uninflated balloons away from children and discard ruptured balloons immediately.
5. Water toys should be used in shallow water under adult supervision. These products are not life-saving equipment, but some parents use them as such.
6. Children lack appropriate guidance from adults when riding bicycles and do not know how to safely use the braking system.
Choose toy safety first
1、 The toy has passed safety and qualification testing.
2、 Each part of the structure is durable and will not scatter.
3、 If the toy is electric, it should have a safety protection device.
4、 All materials such as crayons, paints, and toy rings should be non-toxic as they may be ingested by babies.
5、 If toys are used for cycling, they should have a stable center of gravity without falling and a comfortable seat.
6、 There are no small parts in the toy to prevent babies from choking due to swallowing.
7、 Toys do not have sharp edges to prevent stabbing babies.
For a toy that babies often play with, you should check it periodically to ensure that it is not damaged or detached, as young babies are usually more destructive to toys. At the same time, it is necessary to regularly inspect the equipment in outdoor game venues to determine if they are safe.
